I am a book lover to the point of being obsessive. Always have been. My mum was a librarian and I can clearly remember her helping me sound out the words while I was learning to read just before bedtime, spending afternoons at the library, proudly watching her read books to a rapt crowd of kids at story time; and even learning how those old school book catalog index cards worked. And – as you can see from these photos of the bookcase in my lounge room – my love of books isn’t slowing down.
I love to get into bed early with a cup of tea and read at night. And, to me, there is nothing more luxurious than spending a couple of hours in the afternoon curled up on the couch or on a picnic blanket in the garden or at the beach lost in a book.

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life // Mark Manson
I love Mark’s writing and always find his blog posts clever, refreshing and laugh out loud entertaining. (And I’m not alone, his blog gets 2 million hits a month!) I’ve heard great things about this book. It’s an invitation and practical guide to help us decide on the values that are most important to us. Instead of trying to avoid problems in our life, which Mark argues is unattainable AND undesirable anyway, he suggests we ask ourselves “What are the problems that excite me? What are the problems for which I am willing to sacrifice for, to work for?”.
I’ve seen a bunch of reviews that say, while Mark — true to form — doesn’t hold back or pretend that life can be all unicorns and rainbows, the book is deeply inspiring and fulfilling. I can’t wait to dive into it!
Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance // Angela Duckworth
‘To be gritty is to invest, day after week after year, in challenging practice’, says author, academic, and psychologist, Angela. Why does this matter? Because — get this! — research proves our ‘grittiness’ predicts success more reliably than talent or IQ. Even better, grit can be learnt. In this book, Angela takes us by the hand and spells out exactly how we can cultivate tenacity. Angela has dedicated her life to this stuff. Her TED talk on the topic has been viewed more than 8 million times! I’m looking forward to devouring her tips on picking yourself up after a failure and turbo charging my grit factor. The book even includes a Grit Scale; I can’t wait to see where I rate!
How to Live a Good Life: Soulful Stories, Surprising Science, and Practical Wisdom // Jonathan Fields
Jonathan reckons we should think of our life as being made up of 3 buckets: vitality, connection, and contribution. His theory and the premise of this book is that we can only ever be as happy and fulfilled as our least full bucket. Interesting idea, right? The book is packed with powerful ideas, practical tips and real life stories inspiring us to live a happier, more fulfilling, lit up life. I’ve already read the first couple of chapters and so far this book is a joy. Jonathan’s writing is so friendly and accessible, I already know I love this one!
Choose Yourself! // James Altucher
There’s something about James’ blog posts that I always find compelling. He’s always so vulnerable, honest, and utterly original. He’s written a bunch of books, but ‘Choose Yourself’ is the first one I’ll be checking out. This book isn’t a new release. I’ve seen MANY reviews with people professing that this book had a profound impact on them. It’s all about thriving by choosing yourself in every way by defining success on your terms, eschewing trends, ignoring haters, having faith in yourself, gratitude, creativity and creating value for others — all things I’m eager to experience more and more in my own life. I have the feeling this will be an inhaled-it-in-a-weekend-read for me!
An Abundance Life: Flourishing With The Cycles Of The Moon // Ezzie Spencer
Ezzie is a lawyer with a PhD in women’s well-being and justice after violence who over time noticed the many ways her lived experienced aligned with the moon cycles. By paying attention to, and working with the 8 moon phases in her life, Ezzie learnt to relax, receive, be productive in flow, and enjoy life more. In this book, she shares her personal lunar abundance practice in a practical, fluff free and overwhelmingly generous way. I can’t wait to learn more about how I can apply Ezzie’s lunar abundance practice in my own life. If you nod your head anytime you see ‘Alignment is the new hustle’ in your Instagram feed, this read is for you. BTW if you’re thinking of adding this book to your reading list, I strongly recommend you grab a hardcopy of this beautiful book. The gorgeous artwork throughout makes it feel uplifting even just holding it.
