Want to generate heaps of interest for your project? Here’s what to do:
Grab a really big sheet of paper and some Sharpies. Write a list of absolutely everyone you know. Add people you’d like to know as well. Stop and have a little think about how you could group together like peeps. Group them together if you’d like. And then girl, go ahead and tell all of them about your new project. Ta dah!
And just to be clear up front, I’m not saying spam peeps. You want to keep your good name, right? Instead of sending a big soul-less email to everyone, personalise your communiqués. Reach out to people in the way you think they’d most appreciate saying ‘Howdy there, I’m doing this rad thing, you should totes check it out if you want’. Brainstorm it.
Here’s an example for you.
Let’s say I have a new project I want to generate heaps of interest about called The 2 Hour Project. On my list I’d include friends, family, colleagues, used-to-be colleagues, peeps who read my blog, hotties on my mailing list, social media contacts, online networks, peeps I’ve somehow helped in the past, people who’ve helped me, bloggers I’m crushing on, authors I love who could be down with my project, industry experts, my mentors, the girls from roller derby, my local yoga community, babes in my book club, my stitch and bitch group (ok, those last 2 groups doesn’t exist yet – but I am thinking of starting them up).
I’m always going to be myself, but the language I use and the way I go about sharing the news of my new project with family members is gonna be different from my approach to contacting strangers I’m crushing on. I’ll blog about it, and mention my project in the newsletter I send out to my gorgeous subscribers. And I’ll work up the nerve to send out some completely personalised emails to bloggers and experts I love.
One more tip: Folks love it when you’re up front about what you’re hoping to get from them. Looking for advice? Help? A recommendation? Feedback? An introduction? To be kept in mind? No need to be all smoke and mirrors about it. Just ask. And be cool if they can’t help you out. Please please, be cool.
Shazam! Do it right and before long you’ll be growing your support network, and generating some great interest/traffic/enquiries/help with your big project. Why hello there fine looking business lady!

Great post. Love the last bit about just being upfront with what you want. Keep in’ it real!
Thanks for the audacity boost. W can all use one from time to time.
Thanks Jill, you’re SO welcome! Isn’t it strange how we worry about asking for what we want? Experience tells me that most of the time when I’m upfront about what I’m seeking, people are more than happy to help. Keepin’ it real is right! xo
Love it! I need to start writing some of these lists down, you’re absolutely right. That is going on my other list…the to-do one…but the more immediate basket one!
Tell us more about this “stitch and bitch” group!!! I’m down for picking up my sewing skills (I want to make a skirt so awesome I’ll never wash it…in a nice, pretty smelling kind of way!) and moan (swoon?) over the fact that Jen Aniston still has a smashing body whilst bitching about the taste of Kale green smoothies!!!
Haha, thanks Lis! It sounds like you’re wrangling an intense list system there!
I’m still brainstorming that stitch and bitch baby for now, but I’ll keep you up to date on it. And I agree , Aniston’s body = super hot! xo
Love the simplicity of this – so true too. LOVE stitch & bitch I want to join!!!
Thanks Kate, I’m thrilled with your comment! Simplicity is something I’m gunning for this year. Would love to catch up soon, K xo
Ha ha, this made me giggle…not sure how i’m going to apply it all yet…but I will. Thanks for bringing a smile to my afternoon.
This is so simple yet compelling – awesome! Thanks for the kick in the pants Kate!
